Prof. Brenda Moodley

Prof. Brenda Moodley is an accomplished chemist and academic leader whose research focuses on organic pollutants in environmental matrices such as soil, sediment, and water. Her investigative work covers a wide range of contaminants—including pesticides, PCBs, PAHs, dioxins, as well as emerging pollutants like pharmaceuticals and personal care products—utilizing advanced instrumentation such as GC-MS and LC-MS for analysis.

Prof. Moodley also leads pioneering research on developing synthetic and bioadsorbents to enhance the removal of these pollutants from wastewater, advancing solutions for environmental protection and sustainability. With a PhD in Chemistry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, she has guided and graduated more than ten Master’s and PhD students, demonstrating her commitment to mentorship and knowledge transfer.

With more than 15 years of teaching experience, Prof. Moodley is recognized for her expertise in both chemistry and monitoring & evaluation. Her dedication to research, teaching, and student development positions her as an influential figure in environmental sciences and higher education leadership.
